Second-placed Manchester City will aim to boost their faltering title defence with a trip to Carrow Road to face Norwich only days after a poor away day showing in the 1-0 defeat at Sunderland.
However, travelling City fans will take confidence from the fact that their side scored 11 goals in their two league matches against the Canaries last season. Indeed, it was a Carlos Tevez hat-trick and Sergio Aguero brace that brought the Citizens a 6-1 victory in this fixture last April, a victory that proved crucial in their eventual title victory.
Norwich have just stuttered somewhat of late, with defeats at West Brom and at home to Chelsea bookending what had been a superb 10-match unbeaten league run. However, the Canaries remain 11th in the table and far off any potential relegation battle at the Premier League’s half way point.
Chris Hughton will again be without defender Steven Whittaker with the hip injury that sidelined him of the Boxing Day defeat to Chelsea while midfielder Andrew Surman is also expected to miss out with an ongoing knee problem. Mark Bunn will continue in goal in place of long-term absentee John Ruddy.
Roberto Mancini could call upon Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy again as the French pair seem to have recovered from the hamstring injuries that sidelined them from the defeat at Sunderland. Elsewhere, Carlos Tevez is expected to take his place in the starting XI despite suffering from an illness that could also continue to sideline Mario Balotelli. Maicon (knee), Aleksander Kolarov (thigh) and Micah Richards (knee) remain absent.
