Ranieri confirms Monaco interest in Beckham

Claudio Ranieri has confirmed he would like to bring David Beckham to Monaco, as the former Chelsea manager searches for an experienced midfielder to help his side’s push for promotion to Ligue 1, the Daily Mail has reported.

Beckham is a free agent after leaving Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy, having helped the club to a second MLS Cup victory. The former England captain is understood to have received a number of offers from interested parties, including Paris Saint-Germain, the Ligue 1 side managed for another ex-Chelsea boss, Carlo Ancelotti. Beckham briefly played under Ancelotti in his first loan spell with Milan, in January 2009.

Ranieri, who has also been linked with a reunion with Frank Lampard, the Chelsea midfielder he originally brought to Stamford Bridge in 2001, admitted that he is keen to bring an experienced player or two into his squad to help guide the youngsters when they are on the pitch.

Beckham keeps a passion for football, that’s what interests me. It would be helpful in all aspects of the development of the club,” Ranieri said. “He could share his passion with our young players, at 37 years old, he continues to improve and be professional.

All young players need an experienced coach but also references in the locker room.
