Fernando Torres has expressed his happiness at being the main striker at Chelsea, but asked for more time to develop an understanding with the likes of Eden Hazard and Oscar, the
Hazard and Oscar were signed by the Stamford Bridge side in the summer, the former from Ligue 1 side Lille and the latter from Brazilian outfit Internacional, and in the early weeks of the campaign formed an attacking midfield trio with Juan Mata. But the goals did not flow for Torres, who by netting a brace in midweek against Nordsjaelland ended a scoring drought of more than 12 hours of playing time.
The Spain international has however insisted that he and his new teammates need more time to understand their respective games, adding that while he knows Mata well, Hazard and Oscar were strangers when they arrived at the club.
“It’s just a matter of time and training and being sure that we understand each other. With Mata I have been playing for many years in the national team and last season at Chelsea. But Oscar and Eden have just arrived and we need to train more to improve,” Torres said.
The former Liverpool striker added: “ I’m very happy [being the main striker] because it’s what I have been doing in the past and the role I like to get. Hopefully it can be like this until the end of the season. We still have to improve other things as a team but I think we have the players. We need more time.”
