Villas-Boas was in France to see Moutinho’s Porto play Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, a match that ended in a 2-1 victory for the hosts. Goals from Thiago Silva and Ezequiel Lavezzi, either side of a Jackson Martinez strike for Porto, confirmed the French side would finish top of Group A, with Porto second. Both teams had already reached the next round.
Tottenham pushed to sign Moutinho all summer, the Mail notes, attempting to seal a club record transfer for Moutinho only to see the move collapse before transfer deadline day. But it is understood that Spurs will re-open negotiations with Porto in January and again try to bring Moutinho to White Hart Lane.
Villas-Boas, a former Porto manager, would not confirm that Moutinho was the reason for his decision to take in the match between PSG and Porto. He said: “Whenever Porto are close to the place where I am, I go see them. I went to see them last season against Manchester City and took the opportunity to go and see them again against PSG.”
