Roberto Martinez’s Wigan side will be eyeing victory against basement club QPR as they look to secure the three points that will just ease their relegation fears somewhat, which have been heightened by a poor run of form that has seen the Latics suffer four defeats in their last five matches.
However, Martinez has been hit by a number of injuries and suspensions that have left his backline in particular severely depleted. With skipper Gary Caldwell and Maynor Figueroa missing after picking up suspensions in the defeat away at Newcastle, resources at the back have been further stretched by the continued absences of Antolin Alcaraz and Ivan Ramis with groin and hamstring injuries. Elsewhere, Shaun Maloney, Ryo Miyaichi, Albert Crusat and Ben Watson remain on the sidelines.
Should Harry Redknapp’s side fail to pick up their maiden victory of the season at the DW Stadium, they will set a new Premier League record for failing to win in their first 16 games of the campaign and in all probability, leave them further cut adrift at the bottom with Christmas looming.
Redkanpp looks set to continue with Robert Green in goal with first-choice Julio Cesar struggling with a groin injury, while strikers Bobby Zamora and Andrew Johnson remain absent, leaving Jamie Mackie and Djbrill Cisse fighting for the lone-striking position.
Elsewhere, midfielders Stephane Mbia and Samba Diakite have recovered from the knocks they picked up against Aston Villa last week to take their place in the matchday squad while Ji-Sung Park is also pushing for a start.
