Chelsea are considering a late transfer window move for Birmingham City goalkeeper Jack Butland, with the
Butland is currently first-choice goalkeeper at Birmingham but the financial woes currently plaguing the Midlands club mean he could be available for as little as £3m. Butland is an England Under-21 international, was part of the Team GB squad at the London Olympics and travelled to Euro 2012 with the senior national team after John Ruddy was ruled out of the squad with a broken finger.
He made his senior England bow in the August friendly against Italy, starting in place of the injured Joe Hart as Roy Hodgson’s side won 2-1, Butland playing the first-half and conceding to a Daniele De Rossi header.
Chelsea can already call upon not only Cech, but also young Belgium international Thibuat Courtois, in his second season on loan at Atletico Madrid, as well as Ross Turnbull, who played in Chelsea’s FA Cup draw with Brentford on Sunday.
Butland has been the subject of Premier League attention before, the Mirror notes, with Everton, Liverpool and Southampton all showing interest in the youngster.
