Kenny Dalglish could be set for a return to Liverpool, the
Dalglish held the same position before stepping in as manager when Roy Hodgson was sacked in January 2011, with the Scot appointed as the club’s permanent replacement for Hodgson that summer and holding the post for a year before Brendan Rodgers was appointed instead.
In his second spell as Liverpool manager Dalglish took the club to victory in the League Cup, beating Championship side Cardiff City on penalties, and also to the final of the FA Cup, where they were beaten by Chelsea. Dalglish’s first tenure in the Anfield dugout, between 1985 and 1991, saw the Reds win the league three times and the FA Cup twice.
Liverpool’s principal owner, John W. Henry, said at the time Dalglish was sacked and replaced by Rodgers that he would always be a part of the club, and there was speculation that Rodgers would appoint Dalglish to his backroom staff upon taking charge, although that did not come to fruition, the Telegraph adds.
