Guardiola to become Bayern Munich coach

Bayern Munich have confirmed former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola is to take over at the Bundesliga side in July on a three-year contract, Sky Sports has reported.

Guardiola left Barca at the end of last season after four years at the helm at Camp Nou, winning three La Liga titles, the Champions League on two occasions and a host of other totals, claiming 14 in all. He embarked on a sabbatical in New York after bringing his time as Barca coach to an end, but recently revealed his desire to return to football.

The 41-year-old had been linked with a number of clubs across Europe, including in the Premier League, but Bayern have moved to recruit the Catalan to replace current manager Jupp Heynckes, who had already announced his intention to retire at the end of this season. Bayern confirmed Guardiola’s appointment via a statement on their official website.

A former midfielder, Guardiola captained Barcelona and made almost 400 appearances for the club after graduating from the Barca youth academy. He also had a spell with Brescia in Italy and a brief time with Roma, before seeing out his career in Qatar and Mexico.
