Hernandez targets Man Utd treble

Javier Hernandez wants to repeat the feat of 1999 and win the treble – Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League – with Manchester United, the Guardian has reported.

United made it safely through to the next round of the FA Cup with a 4-1 win over Fulham in which Hernandez scored twice, and hold a lead at the top of the Premier League table of five points from defending champions and local rivals Manchester City.

In the Champions League, United face a two-legged tie against Real Madrid, but the Spanish champions’ camp has been an unhappy one of late, with manager Jose Mourinho falling out with a number of the club’s senior players, goalkeeper Iker Casillas suffering a broken hand and Madrid slipping to third in La Liga, four points behind city rivals Atletico Madrid and 15 adrift of league leaders Barcelona.

In 1999 United won the league by a point from champions Arsenal, beat Newcastle United in the FA Cup final and Bayern Munich in the Champions League final, scoring twice in injury time to record a famous victory.

Hernandez said: “All the people should know we want to win this one, the Champions League and the league. For [nearly] 10 years, all the players have been here, they have not won this cup.

The gaffer, my teammates and myself, we want to win this cup. We have a lot of hunger to win and not to be distracted by the league and the Champions League. We’re very happy, we’re very pleased because we scored four goals and we got through in the cup.

He added: “I want to win all three. I want to win the treble. That’s on our minds. We need to think game by game, get the points in the league and then get through in the Champions League and the FA Cup.
