Liverpool are interested in signing Inter midfielder Wesley Sneijder, but would need the Netherlands international to take a pay cut before he could move to the Premier League, the
Inter are willing to sell the 28-year-old for around £6m but he commands an annual salary of the same size, making Sneijder currently too rich for Liverpool, while his age would also be out of kilter with the Anfield club’s preferred signings.
Brendan Rodgers is understood to be a fan of the playmaker, however, and could find encouragement in a recent interview Sneijder gave to the Italian media. He told Gazzetta dello Sport that while he expects to leave Inter this month, money will not be a factor that determines his destination.
Galatasaray are the only side to have bid for Sneijder thus far but the player has hesitated over a move to Turkey, unsure if it is the right thing for his family. Gala have put a deadline of this weekend on a decision but Sneijder may favour a move that takes him closer to Holland.
Sneijder has been at Inter since a move from Real Madrid in 2009, winning the Champions League with the San Siro side in 2009/10 and picking up his third league title in three different countries, having previously tasted success with Ajax in Holland and Madrid in Spain.
