Michu signs new Swansea contract

Swansea have extended the contract of striker Michu for an extra season, keeping him at the club until 2016.

Sky Sports has reported that the Welsh club looked to secure Michu’s services after his strong start to the season has inevitably brought transfer speculation, with moves to a bigger club being bandied about.

The Spanish striker said it was an “easy decision”, going on to say: “I am living a dream here at Swansea. I’m enjoying my football more than ever.” His current deal was due to run out in the summer of 2015.

Michu is fourth in the Premier League scoring charts in the league this season, netting 13 league goals, with another three poached in cup competitions. He joined the Swans for a fee of £2.2m last summer, moving from Spanish club Rayo Vallecano, and his goals have helped Swansea to a current league position of ninth.

Possible transfer deals with Liverpool and Tottenham were touted but Michu admits: “I’ve read and listened to all the speculation, but it doesn’t interest me, and that’s why I’ve signed a new contract.

The 26-year-old went on to praise the club and its fans, saying: “I’m really happy here in the city with the people, the club and the fans. I think the club are happy with me because they have given me a new contract. I am certainly happy with the club.
