The Reds travel to the Blue Square Premier League side on Sunday, with Mansfield’s Field Mill pitch expected to be less than conducive to Rodgers’ preferred style of play. The Liverpool manager however insists he has approached the match in the same way he would any other match, and called for his players to do likewise or face the humiliation of an FA Cup giant-killing.
“We have prepared exactly the same for Mansfield as we would Manchester United. I don’t think you can under prepare because that’s when it can shoot you in the foot,” Rodgers said. “These are always tricky games, and Mansfield are a well organised side who will cause us problems if we underestimate them.”
Rodgers is expected to rest Steven Gerrard and Daniel Agger for the match but Luis Suarez is likely to start, with new signing Daniel Sturridge understood to be involved but only from the bench. Full-back Jose Enrique has been ruled out of the match and faces six weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.
“There’s been rain, and they had a game called off, but we have to adapt to whatever the conditions are,” Rodgers added. “If you can’t play the ball or pass the ball on then you have to play a different way. We’ll adapt to the conditions, and we expect to win.”
