Rodgers rejects talk of Suarez leaving Liverpool

Brendan Rodgers believes Luis Suarez will still be a Liverpool player next season even if the Reds are not competing in the Champions League, ESPN has reported.

Suarez signed a new contract with the Anfield club in August 2012 while Rodgers added that if Suarez had been considering a move away from the club, he likely could have had one last summer when the manager who brought him to Merseyside, Kenny Dalglish, was sacked.

Rodgers said: “ Luis had a terrific season last season and he had an opportunity to leave, and probably would have had an excuse with a new manager coming in, but he didn’t. He committed to the club.

He sees the vision going forward, and he believes in that. He knows it won’t happen overnight. He has had a brilliant season with 20 goals until now, and hopefully there are many more to come.

Liverpool are currently seventh in the Premier League table, seven points short of Tottenham Hotspur in fourth place and four down on local rivals Everton, who are fifth. Liverpool put five goals past Norwich in their last league fixture, with Suarez joining Jordan Henderson, Daniel Sturridge and Steven Gerrard on the score sheet, while Norwich defender Ryan Bennett scored an own goal.

Suarez has been at Liverpool now since January 2011, moving from Ajax, and has 41 goals in 82 games to his credit.
