Tottenham Hotspur are considering a late move for a striker in the transfer window, with Sevilla forward Alvaro Negredo said to be one of the names on the shortlist of the Premier League club, the
Spurs’ striker pursuit has been given fresh urgency after it was revealed Jermain Defoe faces up to a month on the sidelines with a pelvic injury. The England international missed Sunday’s FA Cup defeat to Leeds United at Elland Road and, with Emmanuel Adebayor on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Togo, Andre Villas-Boas was forced to use attacking midfielder Clint Dempsey in attack.
Villas-Boas later turned to young striker Jonathan Obika but with Togo standing a good chance of going through to the next stage of AFCON 2013, Adebayor’s absence is likely to be extended a while yet. Togo are currently second in their group, behind already-qualified Ivory Coast and ahead of Tunisia on goal difference.
The Mail claims Negredo would be available from Sevilla for £15m but with the Seville club in financial straits, a lower figure could be acceptable. Long-standing target Leandro Damiao is another option, while Celtic striker Gary Hooper has also been considered, according to the newspaper.
