Out-of-favour Tottenham ‘keeper Heurelho Gomes is expected to join German club Hoffenheim prior to the transfer window shutting, The
The Brazilian keeper tweeted today that he was “On [his] way to Germany for a medical”, bringing an end to a turbulent 5 year spell at White Hart Lane. He was a regular between the posts for Spurs in his first three seasons, and was credited by most as a superb shot stopper, leading to him earning his two caps for Brazil in 2010. However, a weakness under the high ball and several errors also marred his game, leading to then-Spurs manager Harry Redknapp bringing in Brad Friedel from Aston Villa as competition for the goalkeeping position.
Friedel quickly established himself as the Spurs first choice keeper, and Gomes saw his appearances for Spurs restricted Europa League and League Cup performances, with Friedal playing all of Spurs Premier League games in the 2011/12 season. The arrival of Hugo Lloris last summer saw Gomes further plummet down the pecking order, and so far this season he has been restricted to appearing on the bench in the League and FA Cup, and having not played any minutes for the first team.
Gomes, 31, will join Hoffenheim, who are currently struggling in the Bundesliga, sitting in 17th and a massive 8 points from safety. They are currently winless since November 2011, and possess the leagues worst defensive record.
