Terry wants to see more from Chelsea teammates

John Terry has urged his Chelsea teammates to raise their game after two disappointing results in quick succession threaten to leave the Premier League club without a trophy this season, ESPN has reported.

Chelsea were knocked out of the Capital One Cup at the semi-final stage last week by Swansea City, going down 2-0 on aggregate after a 0-0 draw at the Liberty Stadium, while their participation in the FA Cup was in doubt for large parts of the weekend fixture with League One Brentford.

The lower division side twice took the lead against their more glamorous neighbours only for Chelsea to pull them back each time, setting up a replay at Stamford Bridge to be played in February.

With a Premier League title challenge looking unlikely – the Blues are 11 points adrift of league leaders Manchester United – and Chelsea’s Champions League defence ending in the ignominy of a group stage exit, there is only the Europa League left to play for if they are knocked out of the FA Cup.

Terry is determined not to let that happen and wants to see his colleagues step up their performances to try and win a trophy this season. He said: “We need to liven up a bit and realise the importance to the fans and the club.

The fact is we’re not winning any trophies at the moment. It was disappointing not scoring over two legs of the semi-final against Swansea. At home we did better, but going there, I’d rather we’d lost 2-0 or 4-0 and give it a go and we didn’t do that.
