Lewis Holtby is to join Tottenham Hotspur this week, Sky
Holtby had already agreed a move to Spurs at the end of the season, when he would have been out of contract with the Bundesliga side. It is understood that Tottenham will pay £1.5m to sign the former Aachen player now rather than pick him up for free in the summer.
The 22-year-old has made three appearances for the senior Germany side and captained the Under-21s. Holtby has been an integral part of the Schalke team this season, playing 27 times for the Gelsenkirchen club, scoring four goals. In total in his career, Holtby has played 160 games, hitting the net on 29 occasions.
Holtby moved to Schalke from Aachen in 2009, having come through the Aachen youth ranks and also spent time at Borussia Monchengladbach. His senior international bow came in 2010, in a November friendly against Sweden, playing a first competitive match in June 2011. Until that point Holtby, born to an English father, could have played international football for England.
