Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal are starting to see the best of the three players they signed in the summer – Santi Cazorla, Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud – after each one of the trio got on the score sheet in the Gunners’ 5-1 Premier League win over West Ham, Sky
West Ham opened the scoring through Jack Collison but Podolski equalised before half-time, while Giroud put Arsenal in front shortly after the break, Cazorla made it 3-1 and Giroud later added his second and Arsenal’s fifth, with a goal for Theo Walcott sandwiched between.
After the match, Wenger said of the summer arrivals: “They are doing better and better. Podolski had a great goal and some great assists. Giroud is getting better and of course Cazorla, we know about him.”
Wenger admitted he was equally pleased with the overall performance of his team, praising their efforts for the whole of the 90 minutes rather than just the 10 minute period in the second-half that saw Arsenal plunder four goals to take the contest away from West Ham.
“I believe overall we played very well for 90 minutes. In the space of 10 minutes we killed the game,” Wenger added. “If you look at the home games we have scored many goals in many games. Sometimes we’ve been stuttering but tonight it went well and we scored some great goals.”
Arsenal next play Championship side Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA Cup at the second tier side’s AmEx Stadium, with the visit of Liverpool to the Emirates Stadium their next league fixture.
