West Ham rule out Anelka move

Nicolas Anelka’s hopes of returning to the Premier League have taken another blow, after ESPN reports that Sam Allardyce is not interested in bringing him to West Ham United.

Anelka is reportedly keen to leave Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua after a series of disputes with the club. The 33-year-old has also been seen training with former side Paris Saint-Germain in January, and was linked to a move to Queens Park Rangers before their capture of Loic Remy from Marseille last week.

Allardyce, who worked with Anelka in his days as Bolton Wanderers boss is likely to sign one more player in January, but that will be a defender, not a striker.

He said: “At the moment I am not in a position for Nicolas Anelka because my main priority is defenders.

We have got Andy Carroll close to coming back (from injury), and we have got Carlton Cole, Marouane Chamakh and we have also brought in Wellington Paulista.

Anelka has had a career often in the headlines since he burst onto the English scene as a teenager at Arsenal in their double-winning campaign of 1997/98.

He has also won the Premier League with Chelsea in 2010, along with the Turkish League in his Fenerbahce spell, and the Champions League with Real Madrid back in 2000.
