Jack Wilshere believes the resolve shown by Arsenal in coming from a goal down to beat West Ham United 5-1 in the Premier League on Wednesday evening showed what Arsene Wenger’s side are truly capable of, Sky
Jack Collison put the Hammers in front after 18 minutes but the lead did not last long, Lukas Podolski equalising in the 22nd minute. The scores remained level until shortly after half-time when Olivier Giroud got his first goal of the game, while a Santi Cazorla goal sparked a four minute spell that saw the Gunners rack up three goals, putting the contest beyond Sam Allardyce’s side.
After Cazorla hit the net Theo Walcott got his name on the score sheet before Giroud added his second of the evening, making the game safe and producing a result that keeps the home side in contention for European football next season.
Arsenal are sixth in the league table, a point behind Everton in fifth and four adrift of Tottenham Hotspur, who hold the final Champions League qualification position.
Wilshere said: “They got a good goal so we had to come out and play and in the second half for 15 minutes we really upped our game. We know the football we can play and that was that. It was a good game for us and we’re happy with the three points.”
