Arsenal have the finances to challenge for Falcao says Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insists that the club has the financial muscle to join the race for the highly sought-after striker Radamel Falcao, according to the Daily Mail.

Under-pressure Wenger will reportedly be given a transfer war chest this summer in an attempt to turn around the Gunners’ waning fortunes.

And the Frenchman insists that it will enable him to join Manchester City and Chelsea in the race for the Atletico Madrid striker’s signature.

Wenger said: “We can do it [Falcao]. If we find a player of top, top quality we will take him. We are in a stronger situation where we can spend some money.

I’m not reluctant to do so. First of all, we only had money recently. We went out to spend money at Christmas but we didn’t find the players.

Colombian international Falcao, who has scored 25 goals for Atletico so far this season, is believed to attract a transfer fee of around £40million – along with a hefty wage packet worth a similar figure.

But Arsenal are under pressure from supporters to improve their squad after another disappointing week which has seen Wenger’s men suffer disappointing defeats to Blackburn Rovers and Bayern Munich in the FA Cup and Champions League, respectively.
