Arsenal linked with move for Barcelona ‘keeper

Arsenal are reportedly lining up a £10 million swoop for Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes, The Sun has reported.

Valdes has declared his intention to leave the Nou Camp at the end of the season, and several top flight clubs are scrambling to secure the signature of the Spanish international. Valdes, 31, has been an integral part of the Barca lineup since making his debut for the club back in 2002, but issued a statement earlier in the season that this would be his final season for the Spanish giants.

Despite his regular appearances for Barca, he has found himself third choice for Spain for most of his career, behind Iker Casillas at Real Madrid and Pepe Reina at Liverpool, and only made his Spanish debut in 2011.

With Barcelona cruising to another La Liga title, speculation has turned as to where Valdes will ply his trade next, and the Gunners have emerged as a possible candidate. Current Gunners number 1 Wojciech Szczesny has been a regular between the sticks for the past three seasons, but with the London club now looking at another trophy-less season following their FA Cup exit on the weekend, manager Arsene Wenger may look at bringing in new faces to help sure up the defence.

Szczesny has kept just six clean sheets for Arsenal, who are currently 5th in the league, whilst all four clubs above them have recorded a higher number.
