Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger attempted to sign Villa in the January transfer window but the approach was rebuffed by the La Liga leaders who were insistent on retaining his services until the end of the campaign.
But Villa has struggled to break into the Barcelona first team this season with the likes of Alexis Sanchez and ex-Gunners midfielder Cesc Fabregas preferred in attacking positions.
If Villa does sign for the north London club though, manager Wenger must alter his policy of only handing one-year-deals to players over 30-years-old, as the ex-Valencia frontman is keen to secure a three-year-contract, at least.
