Enrique demands Liverpool clean sheet in Zenit tie

Jose Enrique believes Liverpool can overturn Zenit St Petersburg’s two goal lead in the second-leg of their Europa League match, but the defender insists the Reds must stop the Russian side from scoring at Anfield, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper notes that Liverpool have conceded more than one goal in around half of their 42 games this season, while in the Premier League, Brendan Rodgers’ side have the second-leakiest defence away from home of any team in the top 10. Only West Bromwich Albion have let in more goals on the road, although, at home, only Manchester City have conceded fewer than Liverpool.

Enrique feels that Liverpool have no problem scoring the goals they need to beat Zenit but called for focus from his fellow defenders to prevent the visitors scoring what could be a costly away goal.

Zenit is our most important game of the season and we have a good chance, even though we lost the first game 2-0. It will be the biggest European game I’ve ever played in. We know we have to score at least two, but we can do it,” the former Newcastle left-back said.

Enrique, who got on the score sheet in the weekend’s 5-0 win over Swansea City, added: “We have really good players and I think we can score a lot of goals. The problem this season has been conceding goals. It’s so important to keep a clean sheet against Zenit. They spent a lot of money so they have good players, but we have to stop them scoring. We need to concentrate throughout.
