Lampard proud of England performance

Chelsea lynchpin Frank Lampard has spoken to the official FA website, and paid tribute to his national team-mates after their brilliant victory over Brazil at Wembley.

Lampard came off the bench at half-time, and made the telling difference as he struck a delightful winner just past the hour mark in the 2-1 friendly victory on Wednesday evening. The 34-year-old has now scored 27 goals for the Three Lions, taking him level with David Platt in the all-time England goalscorers list.

However he insists it was a team effort that got the job done against next year’s World Cup hosts. He said: “The lads who completed 90 minutes deserve a lot of credit, because Brazil can’t half move the ball.

“There was a great work rate out there and we’ve got the win.

Lampard was also impressed by Jack Wilshere’s contribution. The Arsenal playmaker controlled the midfield all night, and was voted as the Vauxhall Man of the Match.

Lampard added: “Jack Wilshere is a fantastic player, his technical ability, his quality on the ball, he is going to be a massive player for England and in the world.”

Despite not being a regular fixture in the Chelsea line-up nowadays, Lampard has already scored 10 league goals this season, and is closing in on both 100 caps for his country and becoming the Blues all-time leading goalscorer.
