Liverpool are too young, says ex-Red Hamann

Former Liverpool star Dietmar Hamann believes the current Reds side is too young and has a long road back to success, according to The Independent.

The 39-year-old ex-Germany international made the comments ahead of Sunday’s clash between two of his old sides, as the Merseysiders meet Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Liverpool are currently occupying seventh position in the Premier League but remain in contention for the final Champions League qualifying spot, along with Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and city rivals Everton.

Brendan Rodgers added to his squad in January, bringing in the energetic duo of Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge, 23, and Inter midfielder Coutinho, 20, to boost the club’s European hopes.

But Hamann believes the Reds are taking a risk with their youthful recruitment policy. He said: “You need a balance in a team, young and old, offensive and defensive…in a team of kids you don’t give them a chance to develop. You need older players to guide them, somebody next to them when things go wrong.
