Man Utd to arrange Ferdinand testimonial

Manchester United will hand long-serving defender Rio Ferdinand a testimonial, even if he leaves the club this summer, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The former England captain’s contract at Old Trafford expires in the summer and he is yet to resolve his future, despite restoring his position at the heart of Sir Alex Ferguson’s first-choice central defensive partnership.

But Ferdinand will still be given a testimonial worth up to £2million if he chooses to head for pastures new.

Clubs from China, USA and the Middle East have expressed an interest in luring the 34-year-old away from the Premier League leaders but Ferdinand insists he is in no rush to make a decision over his future.

United boss Ferguson has previously stated that he believes Ferdinand can play top-level football for at least another two years but contract talks with the one-time £30million signing are yet to reach an advanced stage.
