Toure plans Man City revival

Manchester City midfielder, Yaya Toure, believes his team can still win the league title, The Sun has reported.

City have been without Toure for most of January as he was on duty in the African Cup of Nations with the Ivory Coast, who were knocked out on the weekend in the quarter-finals by Nigeria.

Toure has returned to England to find his team trailing Manchester United by 9 points with 13 games left in the season. However, Toure believes City have the ability to still challenge for the title, claiming: “I’m sure we’ll come back. United have a strong squad and on paper they have an easier run-in that us but the title race is a long way from finished”.

City have been without Toure since their 3-0 defeat of Stoke on New Years Day, and since that time, City have won two and drawn two of their fixtures without him. However, their 2-2 draw with Liverpool on the weekend has opened up that 9 points gap for United, who haven’t lost since November. City have experience in this sort of chase, having overturned an 8 point gap last season with just 6 games left to play. Toure continued, “It only takes a couple of results to go our way and we’re right back in it.”

Toure has been a key figure in City’s lineup since his arrival from Barcelona in 2010, and has 6 goals to his name in 31 appearances so far this season. The 29-year-old is expected to make an immediate return to City’s lineup as they meet Southampton at St Mary’s on Saturday.
