Manchester United’s comfortable 2-0 away victory at QPR on Saturday afternoon came at a cost, as BBC
Flying Dutchman Robin van Persie picked up a bizarre injury which forced him off at Loftus Road five minutes before half-time.
The 29-year-old tumbled down a television camera bunker as he assisted Rafael to score his brilliant opener.
Although he struggled on for a while, he was replaced shortly before the interval by Danny Welbeck.
It is thought the decision was taken on a precautionary scale, but Sir Alex Ferguson will be keeping his fingers crossed that his star man will be fit to face Real Madrid in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League game, with the tie finely balanced at 1-1.
After the game, Ferguson said: “We will assess him tomorrow. Hopefully he’ll be alright for the Real Madrid game. He tried to play on but it was obvious he wasn’t going to make it.”
The Red Devils face a home match with Norwich next Saturday, and it will be interesting to see if Van Persie will be risked ahead of the Madrid encounter.
Goals from Rafael and the evergreen Ryan Giggs took United 15 points clear at the top on Saturday.
