Arsene Wenger says he won’t quit as Arsenal manager but refuses to speculate about whether he will extend his current deal at the club, according to ESPN.
The Frenchman has been under pressure at the Emirates Stadium in recent times after an FA Cup defeat at the hands of Blackburn Rovers precluded a convincing loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League – results which left the Gunners likely to go without silverware for an eighth consecutive season.
The Frenchman’s current deal runs out in 2014 and, while he insists he won’t walk away from the club he joined in 1996, he has refused to be drawn on whether he will stay in north London past the end of next season.
Asked whether he had considered resigning, Wenger said: “Never, not for one second. The love for the game and the love to win [keeps me motivated].”
“I have a contract until 2014 and at the moment I am on a short term plan. For two reasons. One I have been here for a long time and two, I have to consider what I want to do. That will be considered in 2014.”
Arsenal are currently in fifth place in the Premier League, four points off Tottenham Hotspur who occupy the final Champions League qualification spot.
