Tottenham winger Gareth Bale has seemingly ended talk of a move out of the Premier League after signing up as a BT Ambassador. The 23 year old will regularly appear as a guest and feature in television adverts for the new BT Sport channels, which will show 38 live Premier League fixtures a season for the next three years, beginning this coming summer.
Bale has built on his relationship with the company following his appearance in TV ads in 2010, when the company began selling Sky Sports 1 & 2 to customers. The Welsh international joins Olympic heroes like the Brownlee brothers and Paralympic gold medallist Jonnie Peacock and is overjoyed to become a part of the company.
“I am delighted to continue my relationship with BT by becoming a BT Ambassador. I feel honoured to join an exciting band of inspirational sporting figures. A great deal has changed in my football career since my first partnership with BT and I am happy to extend that relationship for the next three years. I am excited about the launch of BT Sport and I am happy to play my part”, Bale said.
Bale has been strongly linked with a move to one of the La Liga giants, Barcelona or Real Madrid, and has talked of his desire to play abroad one day. This move however will give Tottenham confidence that the Welsh international will be staying for the next three years at least.
BT Sport also holds the rights to Serie A, Ligue 1 and Major League Soccer fixtures, as well as the FA Cup, Scottish Premier League, Europa League and Bundesliga following its acquisition of ESPN. Simon Green, head of BT Sports, said in a Press release: “We are thrilled that Gareth has agreed to become a BT Ambassador. He is an inspiring role model for young sports fans and we are delighted that we’ve managed to do what dozens of top football managers would like to do – sign Bale.”
