Chelsea vs Steaua – Europa League preview and team news

Chelsea host Romanian league leaders Steaua Bucharest, looking to make up the difference from a 1-0 defeat in the ties first leg a week ago. If they are successful, a place in the Europa League quarter-final awaits them.

Rafa Benitez’s side slumped to a 2-0 half-time scoreline in the weekend clash away to Manchester United, but two important changes by the manager, bringing on Jon Obi Mikel and Eden Hazard, helped the London side to a 2-2 FA Cup draw.

But with Chelsea needing a win tonight, they will need to improve on a run that has seen them record just two victories in the last six games. On their side however, is the fact they are unbeaten at Stamford Bridge in their last six outings.

Steaua meanwhile have steadied their poor form going into February, and now boast a run of five wins in a row, including over Chelsea, and a penalty victory over Ajax in the last round of the Europa League.

Chelsea are set to swap some players around from the side that started at Old Trafford. Fernando Torres will replace Demba Ba up front, the former Newcastle man being cup-tied. John Terry is also likely to come into the side, while Hazard and Mikel, who both were benched at the weekend, are likely to start.

Steaua are likely to name an unchanged side from the one that won in the first leg.
