Fulham set to land Arsenal’s Frimpong on permanent deal

Fulham are leading the race to sign Emmanuel Frimpong permanently, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 21-year-old has been with Arsenal since he was nine years old, but is apparently no longer a part of Arsene Wenger’s long-term vision in north London, and is out of contract in the summer.

Fulham already have the Ghanaian midfielder on loan until the end of the season, and has figured twice for the Cottagers since completing his temporary move in January.

He had a loan spell at Wolves last season and earlier this term at London rivals Charlton Athletic.

Fulham boss Martin Jol admitted: “If there is an opportunity to take him, I would probably do it.”

Although he was highly rated at the Emirates Stadium through the reserves ranks, Frimpong has only figured 16 times for Arsenal in all competitions.

Meanwhile, the West Londoners have extended Chris Baird’s contract. Baird saw a deadline day move to West Brom collapse last month, but the 31-year-old will sign a one-year extension to his deal.

He joins Damien Duff and former Gunner Philippe Senderos in committing their futures to the mid-table Premier League outfit.
