I’d like to play with Bale and Rooney, reveals Messi

Barcelona’s Lionel Messi has hinted that he would love to play alongside Wayne Rooney and Gareth Bale, says Sky Sports.

The Argentine star lines up alongside the likes of Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez and David Villa every week for the Catalan giants, who are 11 points clear at the top of La Liga.

But Messi, who has scored in his last 16 league matches in Spain, says that he would relish the opportunity to play alongside two of the Premier League’s leading footballers.

Messi said: “Wayne Rooney and Gareth Bale are both great players, they are doing so well for their clubs and I always want to play with the best players.

I have to be careful what I say because I can’t see them leaving their teams soon. But, of course, I want to play with the best players.

The comments are likely to fuel rumours that both Bale and Rooney are set to leave their respective clubs in the summer.

Bale has been in blistering form for Spurs, leading them to third place in the Premier League, while Rooney was left out of Manchester United’s starting line-up for the midweek defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League.
