Liverpool and Man City monitoring Barcelona winger Sanchez

Manchester City have reprised their interest in Alexis Sanchez, the Barcelona winger who the Premier League champions first tried to sign in 2011, when he was still an Udinese player, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Sanchez chose Barca over City, moving to Spain for £22m, but this season has struggled to nail down a place in Tito Vilanova’s side. The 24-year-old has made 25 league and cup appearances this season, often as a substitute, and scored twice, starting just nine times in the current campaign.

Liverpool are also keen on the Chile international but face a job convincing Sanchez to turn down the guaranteed Champions League football on offer from City if he is to leave Camp Nou this summer.

Sanchez began his career at Cobreloa in his native Chile, moving to Udinese in 2006. He spent time on loan in Chile with Colo-Colo and in Argentina at River Plate before establishing himself with the Zebrette in 2008. He had three seasons in the Udinese first team, playing more than 100 games and scoring 21 goals, before switching to Barcelona.
