Two of the Premier League’s bright young managers face off at Anfield as Brendan Rodger’s Liverpool go toe-to-toe with Andre Villas-Boas’ Tottenham. The prospect of Champions League football may now be a distant one for the Merseysiders but having put five past Swansea and four past Wigan without reply in their last two league matches, Rodgers will be determined to continue his side’s recent good league form as they aim to overhaul near neighbours Everton in the table.
The Reds welcome back Daniel Sturridge from a thigh problem though the in-form England international may have to make do with a place on the substitutes bench after Philippe Coutinho’s impressive full debut at Wigan last week. Martin Skrtel also returns while on the back of his hat trick at the DW Stadium last week, Luis Suarez will look to add to his burgeoning goalscoring tally for the season.
Tottenham meanwhile are full of confidence after their North London derby victory over Arsenal last week set a new club record for undefeated matches in the Premier League. That success was followed by a thumping win over Inter Milan in the Europa League with yet another goal for Gareth Bale, his 10th goal in eight appearances for the club.
Bale will surely provide the main threat for Spurs at Anfield though we may be without fellow winger Aaron Lennon, who is struggling with a hamstring problem. Elsewhere, Emmanuel Adebayor is fit again after missing the Europa League clash with Inter, while Tom Huddlestone and Clint Dempsey are doubts with knee and calf injuries respectively.
