Luka Modric would consider returning to the Premier League with Manchester United, the
The Croatian midfielder played for Madrid against United in the Champions League tie earlier this month, scoring at Old Trafford as Sir Alex Ferguson’s side were dumped out of the competition, having had winger Luis Nani controversially dismissed.
Modric has not been a regular in the Madrid team this season and the newspaper claims that while he is not actively looking to leave Spain, if United were to renew their interest in him he would be open to the move.
Ferguson is a long-standing admirer of the former Tottenham Hotspur player and tried to sign him from White Hart Lane in 2011. United could not agree a fee with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, however, and a year later Modric moved to the Santiago Bernabeu under Jose Mourinho.
United later signed Japan midfielder Shinji Kagawa as a replacement for Paul Scholes, but with Scholes expected to confirm a second retirement this summer, Ryan Giggs potentially with one season left in his career and the future of Wayne Rooney in doubt, Ferguson could resurrect his interest in the 27-year-old Modric.
Modric, bought by Madrid for £33m, has scored only twice for the Spanish club this season, making 31 appearances in all competitions. He previously played more than 150 times for Tottenham in his four years with the club.
