Mancini not in danger of Man City sack, says Platt

David Platt believes Roberto Mancini’s job as Manchester City manager is safe despite another Premier League defeat, according to ESPN.

The Italian manager’s future at the Etihad Stadium is rumoured to be under threat after a disappointing season which has seen them fall short both domestically and in Europe.

But City first-team coach Platt says that Mancini still has the support of the club’s owner, Sheikh Mansour, and chairman, Khaldoon Al Mubarak, despite another defeat to Everton at the weekend.

Platt said: “There is an appreciation of Roberto from the supporters and the owners. The expectancy levels of Roberto Mancini are a lot higher than what people think.

If people want to talk about rumours and negatives that is up to them. We can’t stop that. If people want to do things like that, they can.

Goals from Leon Osman and Nikica Jelavic gave the Toffees a 2-0 win over City on Saturday and an ‘angry’ Mancini avoided the post-match press duties – instead sending Platt to face the media.

Malaga manager Manuel Pellegrini is among the candidates linked with the top job at the Premier League champions, should Mancini’s services be disposed of.
