Stevan Jovetic has revealed he is flattered by interest from Premier League Arsenal ahead of Montenegro’s World Cup qualification match with England, ESPN
The Fiorentina forward will line up alongside Juventus’ Mirko Vucinic to take on Roy Hodgson’s England on Tuesday evening but has admitted he is tempted by the prospect of playing the likes of Joleon Lescott and Chris Smalling – England’s potential centre-back partnership – on a regular basis with the Gunners.
Jovetic has been spoken about as a possible replacement for Robin van Persie and while he shied away from such comparisons, confirmed he would be open to playing under Arsene Wenger one day.
“I’ve heard about Arsenal’s interest. It’s a big pleasure for me to be on the radar of such a big club. I am happy about that, Jovetic said, adding: “I’ve always had an affinity with Arsenal. It’s a major club with a big tradition, one of the biggest in Europe.”
Jovetic continued: “It’s not easy to replace Van Persie, who scored a lot of goals. Arsenal have plenty of players who don’t score like Van Persie, but are also very good. They are still very strong. I often watch Premier League games on TV. It’s one of the best leagues in the world and looks tempting for me.”
The 23-year-old went on: “Maybe one day I will play there but I have a contract with Fiorentina and battling for a Champions League place in Serie A is the only thing I’m thinking about now.”
