Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote does not believe the Magpies are safe in the Premier League yet, ESPN
The Tyneside club are currently 13th in the table, six points clear of the relegation zone but have played a game more than 18th-placed Wigan Athletic, who beat Newcastle in their last fixture before the international break.
Newcastle’s form of late has been mixed and Tiote believes the unpredictable nature of the division means the club is not out of danger yet. “I think we have more work to do,” Tiote said. “You never know what can happen. The Premier League is so, so different to any other league in the world.
“Any team can win four or five games and get out of it, so that’s what we will aim to do and then we will be safe.”
The 26-year-old Tiote joined Newcastle from Twente in 2010, having begun his professional career at Anderlecht and also spent time on loan at Roda JC. An Ivory Coast international, Tiote has played 78 times for Newcastle, scoring his only goal against Arsenal in 2011, when Newcastle came from 4-0 down at home at half-time to draw 4-4, Tiote netting the late equaliser.
