Oboabona on trial at Arsenal

Following African Cup of Nations success with Nigeria, Godfrey Oboabona has been offered a trial with Arsenal, as they look to strengthen their shaky defence, The Daily Mail reports.

The 22 year old played a crucial part in ensuring Super Eagles’ success at the competition earlier this year and has earned 18 caps for his country. Oboabona plays his club football in his homeland with Sunshine Stars and is reportedly valued at £1m with Arsene Wenger prepared to sign him, if he impresses whilst on trial.

Oboabona has reportedly caught the eye of clubs right across Europe and the Gunners have made the first move to try and sign the highly-rated centre-back. Arsenal’s defence has come under severe criticism so far this season and fans have called on Wenger to strengthen their backline with top-quality defenders, if they want to re-ignite their former glories.

Speaking on the reported interest, Oboabona said: “Arsenal are my favourite club from childhood. It is the club I want to play for. I already have offers from the top five leagues in the world. I would rather wait until the summer and make the right choice instead of rushing into any move”.
