PSG join list of Bale admirers

Welsh wizard Gareth Bale is likely to soon be the subject of a bidding war, reports The Sun.

The Spurs winger has garnered a reputation as one of the planet’s elite players, and some of Europe’s top clubs are thought to be planning a raid on White Hart Lane to capture the 23-year-old’s signature.

Spanish giants Real Madrid are thought to be leading the chase for the former Southampton star, but the man responsible for Bale’s arrival in North London, Damien Comolli, expects wealthy French outfit Paris Saint-Germain to join the pack.

The former Spurs Director of Football said: “When you leave Tottenham and you are a player like Bale, there are only three or four clubs you can go to.

“If PSG know the player is on the market — and there is a possibility — it wouldn’t surprise me if they did everything in their power to get him”, added the 40-year-old.

Bale, however, appeared to pour cold water on the speculation that he could be heading south of the English Channel, stating: “At the moment PSG aren’t at the level of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United or Bayern Munich.”

His performances for the North Londoners in the Champions League two years ago rocketed his reputation, and speculation persists that he could soon join former Spurs team-mate Luka Modric at the Bernabeu.

Bale arrived at Tottenham in 2007 for a reported transfer fee of £7m, and has made 137 appearances for Spurs, netting 37 goals.
