Rooney heading for Man Utd exit

Manchester United will sell Wayne Rooney this summer, with Chelsea, Paris Saint-German and Chelsea ready to move for the England striker, the Daily Mirror has reported. United are understood to want £35m for the former Everton player.

Rooney was dropped for United’s Champions League second knockout round defeat to Real Madrid on Tuesday, coming off the bench in the second-half. The Mirror claims that Rooney was “furious” at not being included in the starting line-up.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson is said to be willing to sell Rooney because of concerns over his fitness and lifestyle. With two years left on his contract this summer United are keen not to let Rooney’s contract run into its final 12 months but do not want to offer an extension to the player, who will turn 28 later this year.

Rooney joined United from Everton in 2004, moving to Old Trafford for around £27m. In nearly nine years he has played almost 400 times for the club, scoring nearly 200 goals in the process.
