Silverware will ensure Tottenham’s capital domination, says Gallas

Veteran French defender William Gallas has spent a large portion of his club career playing for London sides, and he has told the Evening Standard that his current club Tottenham must win a major honour if they want to be recognised as the leading force in the capital.

Spurs lost their first Premier League match since December on Sunday, as individual errors were punished in the 3-2 defeat to an ever-improving Liverpool side, and the double Premier League title winner with Chelsea knows what it takes to win silverware, and experience trophy droughts during his time with Arsenal.

Ahead of Thursday’s return leg in the Europa League with Inter, Gallas sees the Lilywhites have plenty of potential to deliver big under Andre Villas-Boas.

He said: “We have to win some trophies, and then I think people will start to respect Tottenham more. The fans will be more proud to walk with their shirts on their backs but we need to lift trophies. It is as simple as that.

Signed by former boss Harry Redknapp in 2010, Gallas has become an important member of the dressing room at White Hart Lane, but the 35-year-old has seen his playing time marginalised this season by the excellent form of Michael Dawson and Belgian Jan Vertonghen.
