Wigan’s customary late-season charge for survival looks to be in full swing after Arouna Kone’s last-minute winner against Newcastle in their last outing saw them take their second win from three matches and leave them just three points off Aston Villa in the final relegation position.
Indeed, Latics boss Roberto Martinez will know that a win at home to Norwich could even drag the Canaries back into contention for the drop, despite their relatively safe current position of 12th.
The hosts may leave out Callum McManaman after Martinez claimed the striker was suffering due to the media attention placed on him following his horror challenge on Newcastle’s Massadio Haidara, as well as an ankle injury.
Defender Antolin Alcaraz will also undergo a fitness test after only just returning from a long-term groin problem. Elsewhere, Ben Watson and Ivan Ramis remain missing with leg and knee problems respectively while Ryo Miyaichi has returned to parent club Arsenal with a long-term ankle injury.
For Norwich, third-choice goalkeeper Lee Camp will start due to John Ruddy’s long-standing thigh injury and Mark Bunn’s suspension while Russell Martin and Alex Tettey have shekn off knee and hamstring problems to take their places in Chris Hughton’s starting XI.
Anthony Pilkington is still missing with a hamstring injury of his own while Andrew Surman is also unavailable.
