Aguero apologises to Luiz for stamp

Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero has contacted Chelsea’s David Luiz to apologise for stamping on him during the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday, the Daily Mail has reported.

Aguero revealed on Twitter that he had been in touch with Luiz, writing: “I’ve contacted @DavidLuiz_4 and apologised for what happened during the match. It was an impulse reaction that shouldn’t have happened.

Luiz responded: “Thank you @aguerosergiokun for a demonstration of character. We get to know great man and athletes this way.” Luiz, who escaped injury in the incident, had previously called on the Argentine to apologise.

Aguero will not face action from the Football Association despite referee Chris Foy not seeing the altercation, the governing body ruling the incident could not be re-refereed.

City won the match 2-1 through goals from Samir Nasri and Aguero, with Demba Ba netting for the Londoners. Roberto Mancini’s side will play fellow Premier League outfit Wigan Athletic in the final after the Latics saw off Championship Millwall.
