Arsenal close to Jovetic signing

Arsenal are nearing the signing of Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic, the Daily Mail has reported, in a deal that will see Arsene Wenger spend around £25m on the Montenegro international.

The newspaper adds that while Fiorentina have set a £25m valuation on the 23-year-old, Wenger remains determined to bring the Serie A club to a lower price, despite having a £70m transfer kitty to work with this summer.

Jovetic is a long-term target for Wenger, with the manager sending scouts to watch the former Partizan Belgrade player on a regular basis for much of the last two years. Jovetic joined Fiorentina from Partizan in 2008, having previously become the youngest ever captain of the Serbian side.

His time in Florence has seen Jovetic net 48 goals in 124 games, while he also has 10 goals in 26 international appearances to his name. Arsenal are keen to wrap up the deal for Jovetic soon, the Mail adds, as Juventus and Manchester City are also showing interest.

Wenger is said to be plotting an overhaul of his Gunners squad, with goalkeeper Rene Adler, a potential £8m signing from Hamburg, also incoming.
