Chelsea to offer further Courtois loan to Atletico in Falcao bid

Chelsea will try to tempt Atletico Madrid into selling Radamel Falcao by agreeing to let the Spanish club keep goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois for another season, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Courtois has spent the last two years on loan at the Vicente Calderon since moving to Chelsea from Genk and has won many admirers in La Liga, with Atletico keen to keep hold of the Belgium international for as long as possible.

Chelsea could use that desire to entice Atleti into agreeing a fee for Falcao, who is valued at £50m and also wanted by the Blues’ Premier League rivals Manchester City, newly-crowned champions Manchester United, and Atletico’s city neighbours Real Madrid.

Edinson Cavani is also said to be on Chelsea’s wanted list but owner Roman Abramovich has set his mind on signing Columbia international Falcao, and the club are willing to use Courtois as a bargaining chip.

Courtois is not the only on-loan Chelsea player to be used in this way as Kevin De Bruyne, another Belgian, has been offered to Bayer Leverkusen in return for Andre Schurrle. De Bruyne, who has spent this season on loan at Werder Bremen, has, like Courtois, never played for Chelsea.
