Fulham will look to continue their good form and close the gap on ninth-placed Swansea as West London rivals QPR visit Craven Cottage.
A point may no longer be good enough for the Rs after Wigan’s late win over Norwich saw the gap between the two clubs stretch to seven points and with only eight games left to play, it is fast becoming apparent that Harry Redknapp may have to work miracles if he is to preserve QPR’s Premier League status.
Fulham have flirted with the drop zone themselves at times this season though there seems to be a feeling of upward momentum around the club of late. The team have been in good form, suffering only one defeat in their six to move into the top half of the table.
This improved run has led to Martin Jol extending his contract to stay as manager for another season and that was quickly followed by the crucial news of Brede Hangeland’s decision to extend his own stay at the club until 2015. The club captain had been out of contract at the end of the season but has been convinced to stay at the club where he has made over 200 appearances since his arrival in January 2008.
Jol will be missing Mahamadou Diarra on Monday night after the Mali midfielder was ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee problem while forward Bryan Ruiz is a doubt with a hamstring problem.
For the visitors, Bobby Zamora has shaken off the flu and is fit to take part against his former club while Armand Traore could also be fit provided he recovers from a calf injury. Redknapp’s main decision will be whether to recall Adel Taarabt to his starting XI as his side search for creativity and goals.
