Arsenal look set to miss out on their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund star Mario Gotze, after the midfielder’s agent declared that the player has no intentions of leaving the Bundesliga club this summer, reports The
Arsene Wenger had hoped that a bid in the region of £31.5m in the summer would be enough to tempt the German international to the Emirates. Gotze recently signed a new deal with Dortmund which included that fee as a release clause, and this deal runs until 2016.
Gotze’s agent, Volker Struth, said: “Mario has not even thought about leaving Dortmund in 2013. He is totally not interested in that and will stay at least another season.”
Man City had also been reprted to harbour interest in the player, but sources close to Gotze claim that his dream is to play for Barcelona when he does eventually leave Dortmund.
Sir Alex Ferguson is also known to be a fan of the Germany star, and the player himself said in a recent interview that United would lead the chase should England prove his next destination, saying: “I am very happy at Dortmund and satisfied with the way we are progressing as a team,’ he said. ‘Any thoughts about playing for another team are very much for the future, but Real Madrid, Barcelona or Manchester United could be interesting.”
It has been suggested, however, that despite mentioning United as a potential alternative, Gotze has his heart set on a move to Barcelona the season after next.
